Jože Lenič, MSc

Career:

Jože Lenič has been President of the Management Board (CEO) of Abanka since 2011. He has more than 15 years of management and leadership experience, the last 12 years in the financial industry — banking, insurance and asset management.

Previously, he was a partner at a private insurance brokerage house, Axum Insurance. Between 2003 and 2005, he was the CEO of the largest Slovenian insurance group, Zavarovalnica Triglav. Between 2000 and 2003, he served as President of the Capital Fund, a state-owned asset management company. Jože Lenič was also elected a Member of the Slovenian Parliament in the period 1993-1999 and sat as an MP on the Finance, Infrastructure and International Relations Committees of the Parliament. Before that he was President of the Executive Council of the Municipality of Domžale.

Jože Lenič has extensive experience in serving as a member of supervisory boards in various banks and companies.

Education:

He holds a master’s degree in International Economics from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Ljubljana, and he also gained a degree as Teacher of Geography and Geology from the University of Ljubljana.

Matej Golob Matzele

Matej Golob Matzele

Career:

Matej Golob Matzele has been a Member of the Management Board of Abanka since December 2015. He has more than 20 years of experience in the financial industry, of which more than 12 years in banking. He has held various management positions in the fields of asset management, investment banking and restructuring over the past 15 years.

He joined Abanka in September 2012 and was responsible for managing the Corporate Banking Division.

Prior to joining Abanka, he was CEO and a member of the Board of Directors of PDP d.d., a state-owned restructuring firm. Previously, from 2006 to 2009 he was Managing Director of the investment company Poteza Investments. From 2004 to 2006 he worked at the Capital Fund, a state-owned asset management company as Director of the Investments and Asset Management Department. He also managed the Closed Mutual Pension Fund for Civil Servants. Between 1997 and 2004 he worked at Bank Austria Creditanstalt d.d. in Ljubljana, where he went from stockbroker to head of the securities department, head of the global securities services division, head of the asset management and securities trading division and procurator. He began his business career in 1996 as a broker for the stockbroking company Bema. In his career he has also acted as chairman or a member of supervisory boards in various Slovenian and regional companies.

Education:

Matej graduated in banking and finance studies from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Ljubljana in 1996, gaining the title of Graduate Economist.

Nada Mertik

Nada Mertik

Experience:

Nada Mertik has been a member of the management board since July 2019. She has a wide range of knowledge in banking and other fields within the banking sector, where she has experience of management and governance in her rich and varied career. She has worked in banking for 27 years now, and joined Abanka in 1992.

Between 1993 and 1998 she was head of the accounting department. Since 1998 she has occupied a number of executive director positions, as head of the Back-Office Operations Division, the Back-Office Division, the Information Technology Division, the Development and Information Technology Division, and the Finance and Back-Office Division. The areas where she has played an important part in the bank meeting its strategic objectives include finance, accounting, controlling and reporting, payments, card and ATM operations, information technology and data warehousing, while she was also involved in the risk management and control process in her fields of work.

Before joining Abanka, she was head of the finance and accounting department at Slovenia’s ministry of environmental protection between 1981 and 1992. She was responsible for compiling the financial reports and closing accounts, and reports for international institutions on the use of funding, the financial coordination of programmes for budget preparation and monitoring purposes, and reporting on actual spending.

Education:

Nada Mertik graduated in business studies from the University of Ljubljana’s Faculty of Economics in 1981, obtaining the title of graduate economist.
